So You’re Looking For A Training Contract?
Imagine this…
Imagine being trained by a partner who is recognised as being a leader in their field of expertise on a one to one basis.
Imagine having this precious resource all to yourself and not having to compete with numerous other trainees to ensure you are getting the best training.
Imagine working alongside not just one partner but several, all of whom are actively training you, taking an interest in you, supporting you and developing you.
Imagine being the only trainee in a department, constantly learning from a team of exceptionally bright, focussed and approachable individuals and guaranteeing that you are gaining access to all the best work.
Imagine an entire firm supporting your training and development throughout your training contract and beyond.
Imagination running away with you? Perhaps not…
- You Get To Have As Much Responsibility As You Like
You will be given as much responsibility as you can handle from the start. It will be a fairly regular occurrence that you will be the only trainee in a department and therefore will come to accept a great deal of responsibility. We realise this might seem a daunting prospect for you, but you will be provided with all the support needed to enable you to welcome the responsibility and subsequently learn and develop at a quicker pace.
- You Get To Have The Entire Team Supporting You & Your Training
The support that you will individually receive both professionally and personally at Fox Williams is second to none. We appreciate that embarking on your training contract with us will be a steep learning curve and we ensure that the support network we provide you with is “fail-proof”.
You will be supported on a day to day basis by a number of colleagues; your supervising partner, your team, your senior associate mentor, your trainee buddy, the HR/Training team. The culture and working practices at Fox Williams also ensures that you are supported by every member of staff. You will come to know every staff member on a first-name basis and they in turn will come to know and watch out for you. There will always be a friendly and approachable face to provide you with advice; point you in the right direction or to mull things over with.
- You Get To Work With Great People In A Great Working Atmosphere
You can be a part of a firm that has been awarded the Investors in People accreditation, is named as one of the “Best Small to Medium Sized Company To Work For” by The Times and is renowned throughout the City as being a great place to work. As a potential lawyer what more hard evidence do you require?
Fox Williams is dedicated to providing a supportive, open and friendly working environment for all its staff. We want our employees to be happy here. Providing and supporting this unique working environment is as crucial to the success of the firm as our clients are. We achieve and protect this unique atmosphere by recruiting the right people; people who are not only intelligent, business minded and focussed in what they do, but are also approachable, friendly, have a sense of humour and are supportive of their colleagues.
We are committed to providing excellent training and development facilities to all our staff. We have a dedicated Training Manager who oversees the training of every staff member and we endeavour to provide the best amenities, IT and technological facilities to support our employees as much as possible in their working lives.
- You Get To Experience More Areas Of Law, Try Five Seats Instead Of Four
Your training contract here will consist of a five seat training programme with each seat lasting approx. 21 weeks. We try to ensure that you gain experience in the five core areas of our practice giving you the opportunity to make an informed decision about the area you would like to qualify into. As we adopt an individually tailored approach to every one of our trainees development, if you would like to repeat a seat in a particular department to confirm your decision about qualifying in a particular department then we will endeavour to accommodate your wishes.
- You Get To Have A Great Working Social Life
Put approximately 100 approachable, friendly and outgoing people into a firm together and you cannot help but have a very active social scene. We have a dedicated Social Committee which regularly organises events for all staff. In the past these have included, a night at the dog track, a Tudor banquet and a salsa night. The Social Committee also organises the two main events of the year, the Christmas and Summer parties. The Christmas party is a black-tie event and holds a special place in the trainee’s hearts. They have to perform a “sketch” for the rest of the firm, which generally consists of gently poking fun at different colleagues who more often than not tend to be partners! The Summer party is a relaxed evening in July usually held al fresco in a venue close to the City. In addition to the organised events there are frequent “informal” social gatherings usually located at a nearby public house or restaurant!
- You Get To Have Excellent Quality of Training
You will have the opportunity to be individually trained by partners and lawyers who are experts in their respective fields, our entries in the Legal 500 and Chambers are a testament to this. However you could say the same of a lot of firms. The difference in training at Fox Williams is that you will have this precious resource to yourself the majority of the time as you will often be the only trainee in a department or if not one of two trainees. It is not unusual for you to be trained and developed by up to three partners in one department and have them all to yourself!
- You Get To Be A Part Of The Team
You should expect to be regarded as part of the Fox Williams team from day one. We will actively involve you and expect you to be involved in all aspects of your departments workload and of the ongoing success of the firm. This involvement will range from client meetings to firm-wide marketing initiatives; from involvement on the social committee to being asked for your comments and input on a departmental business plan.
