Congratulations to Ultrahaptics for winning the Technology Innovation of the Year Award, sponsored by City law firm Fox Williams LLP, at the UK Private Business Awards 2018.

The haptic technology company was announced as the winner at Thursday evening’s awards ceremony, hosted at The Brewery in London. Ultrahaptics faced strong competition with each of the six finalists representing a spectrum of industries, but their technology that “creates the sensation of touch in mid-air” saw them emerge victorious.

Ultrahaptics, founded in 2013 and based on technology developed at the University of Bristol, developed breakthrough haptic technology using ultrasound to create rich, three-dimensional shapes and textures that can be felt, but not seen. No controllers or wearables are needed: their patented “virtual touch” technology uses ultrasound to project shapes and textures directly onto the user’s hands. Controls can be operated without touching a surface, gestures can be enhanced with tactile feedback, and users can interact in a natural way with virtual objects.

The award was presented by Richie Clark, head of Fox Williams’ corporate group, who said, “Ultrahaptics winning this award is a fantastic achievement. Using breakthrough technology, they have created innovative products and programs that can revolutionise how we interact. Their immersive technology can be applied across a range of sectors.”
