Simon Smith

April 28, 2020

It is with great sadness that we share with you the news of the peaceful passing of our dear friend, colleague and former partner Simon Smith on Easter Sunday. Simon fought the onset of the crippling symptoms of motor neurone disease and struggled on with his daily commute from East Sussex for as long as he possibly could before retiring from our Partnership in April 2019 due to ill health.

Simon joined Fox Williams in 2008 with fellow real estate partner Liz Ruff and corporate partner Paul Taylor from US law firm Faegre & Benson, where he had worked for over a decade following a series of mergers through Hobson Audley and Hopkins and Wood, the start-up firm he joined from Clifford Turner in 1981 to establish a real estate practice. Dedicated to his clients and always putting their interests first, he worked hard to build Fox Williams’ real estate practice. He took great pride in becoming known for not only his specialist expertise but also for his sage, pragmatic and commercial advice on all things both real estate and generally. His work ethic and great client service, coupled with his huge sense of loyalty and good humour, were second to none and a wonderful legacy for all those he trained or who worked with him throughout his legal career. He will be sadly missed by colleagues and clients alike.
