Fox Williams advised the ultimate shareholders of Laurence King Publishing (LKP) on the sale of the group’s entire issued share capital to Hachette UK. LKP was founded by Laurence King in 1991 and is billed as one of the world’s leading publishers of books and gifts on the creative arts. The sale also includes LKP’s successful German business, Laurence King Verlag.

Following completion of the sale on 31 August 2020, LKP’s gift, trade and art publishing will become an imprint of Orion Publishing Group, LKP’s student and professional publishing will become an imprint of Quercus and LKP’s children’s publishing will become part of the Hachette Children’s Group.

Corporate partner Mary Elliott led the Fox Williams team which consisted of partner Emma Bailey (tax), legal director Joanne Varia (tax), senior associate Beth Silkin (corporate) and associate Priya Mattu (corporate), with employment advice provided by senior associate Daisy Jones and associate Matthew Perry. The transaction further adds to Fox Williams’ extensive experience in advising independent publishers and the sales and acquisitions of publishing businesses.
