ICO Press Release: Shock, Horror - Parents Can Take Photos of Their Children in Nativity Plays

December 21, 2010

The Information Commissioner’s Office issued a press release in advance of Christmas confirming that the Data Protection Act 1998 does not prevent family and friends from taking photographs at school concerts or nativity plays.

The Information Commissioner’s Office stated that a common sense approach was needed and emphasised that photographs taken for the family album were exempt from data protection laws.
This highlights the general lack of understanding as to how data protection laws apply and what can and can not be done.
