As well as being Senior Partner, Gavin is a partner in the litigation and dispute resolution department. He has more than 30 years’ experience of handling a broad range of UK and international business disputes, involving litigation, UK and international arbitration, mediation and negotiations.
In particular, Gavin specialises in civil fraud, financial and banking litigation, breach of contract, corporate transactional and corporate governance claims (including breach of warranty, breach of directors’ duties and shareholder disputes) and partnership / LLP disputes. He acts mainly in the financial services and professional services sectors, and much of his work is cross-border. He has handled a number of multi-million and billion-dollar international fraud cases. Much of his work is international.
Gavin is the current Chair of the City of London Law Society Litigation Committee, and a Committee member of the London Solicitors Litigation Association. He is a former Honorary Secretary of the Association of Partnership Practitioners (APP) and former President of the American Counsel Association. Gavin has written numerous articles, and has been quoted many times in the national and trade press. He is rated as a leading dispute resolution individual in The Legal 500 and Chambers UK Guide to the Legal Profession.
Acted for a partner leading a team move from one leading law firm to another, and in subsequent LCIA and AAA arbitrations in the UK and US.
Acted for a joint venture company in a shareholders dispute, involving allegations of fraudulent conduct, and proceedings in the UK and Jersey.
Acted for a Chinese client in successfully challenging the jurisdiction of the English Court in respect of an action involving fraudulent misrepresentations.
Acted for a Canadian company in an ICC arbitration brought by a Singaporean company in relation to seismic data for oil exploration.
Conducted an investigation for a leading law firm into the conduct of one of its partners.
Acted for a partner in a private equity firm dispute in the UK and Luxembourg.
Acted for a leading law firm in respect of a very substantial team move and LCIA arbitration.
Acted for a defendant in an international fraud claim in respect of oil trading in West Africa for more than £300 million, involving worldwide freezing injunctions.
Acted for a senior partner leaving a leading international management consultancy firm and joining another.
Acted for a property developer against a major bank in respect of fraudulent misrepresentations with regard to interest rate hedging products.
Acted for Hertz in successfully defending proceedings brought against them in the Commercial Court by Ryanair claiming damages for breach of contract for €70 million.
