Phyllis joined the Fox Williams travel team in March 2019 as an associate. She specialises in advising clients on travel regulations compliance as well as general commercial matters for clients within the travel industry.

Phyllis regularly advises clients on:

  • The provisions of the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018, The ATOL Regulations, IATA rules and requirements, ABTA’s Code of Conduct and other consumer protection laws such as the Consumer Rights Act 2015, Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 and other relevant EU legislation.
  • Guidance from key trade bodies and regulators (e.g. ABTA, the Civil Aviation Authority).
  • Financial protection arrangements and options for package holiday and linked travel arrangements providers.
  • Commercial contracts with various suppliers, including hoteliers and airline aggregators. 
  • Consumer contracts in relation to compliance with the relevant travel regulatory and consumer protection requirements.
  • Contentious issues, including customer claims and grievances and investigations and disciplinary actions by regulators (including the Civil Aviation Authority, the Competition & Markets Authority and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency).
  • Regulatory requirements for overseas travel companies entering into the EU/UK market for the first time.

Phyllis also regularly works with lawyers in other jurisdictions to support clients who are expanding into new territories outside of the UK. In this regard, Phyllis continues to work closely with a large online travel agent which has so far been able to launch its travel business in four new European territories.

Phyllis also has experience in media, IP and general commercial matters, having previously trained and worked in the in-house legal team at Immediate Media Co. (formerly BBC Magazines).

Phyllis is a regular attendee at travel industry events, including ABTA Conventions and Seminars, as well as events hosted by Travel Weekly and the Travel Trade Gazette.

Phyllis has also presented at, and assisted with, travel briefings for clients which have been hosted at Fox Williams. She is also a member of the Association of Women Travel Executives.

Phyllis graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2005 with a 1st Class Honours degree in English Language and Literature. She then completed the Graduate Diploma in Law and Legal Practice Course at the University of Law in London.

In 2020, Phyllis was recognised as one of Legal 500’s Rising Stars for Travel Regulatory and Commercial legal services.
