What are we looking for?

What are we looking for?

Fox Williams is looking for inspired, dedicated and talented future lawyers with the ambition to be the best in their field - whatever their background.  We look for trainees who work together rather than in competition, and who take a mature approach to their work focussing on maintaining high professional standards and output quality.  We want trainees who are proud to work at Fox Williams, and who have a desire to grow and develop the firm in the long term.

Academics and work experience

Fox Williams prides itself on the nature of its work which often presents new and unique situations that are fast paced, technically complex and require innovative solutions.  Trainees at Fox Williams will be expected to understand complex legal drafting and to provide useful insight and ideas to help progress the case from an early stage.  Therefore, academic excellence is essential.

Prospective candidates are therefore far more likely to be successful if they have achieved at least A, B, B or equivalent at A Level and at least a 2:1 degree from any University in an academic subject.  That said, candidates who may not have met these requirements, but have continued to excel in their Undergraduate degree, GDL and LPC will also be considered.

For applicants who haven’t yet started their LPC, we will offer financial support to cover the cost of the LPC so please make us aware that you’d like financial support for your LPC on your application.

To be able to start your training contract with us, you will need to have successfully completed your Legal Practice Course or be due to complete the course the year of joining.

Top tip!  Before joining us, many of our trainees have also held roles as paralegals or as vacation scheme students.  If this includes you, please also ensure that the details are included in your application.

Characteristics

During their seats, Trainees play an integral role in their respective teams, taking on key responsibilities as soon as they arrive.  They are encouraged to start legal drafting, managing files, sharing ideas during team meetings and to become involved in business development activities from their first seat. Trainees are also expected to manage their own workload and to assist with firm-wide events.

Top tip!  Trainees who thrive at Fox Williams are highly organised, pro-active and commercially minded but also have a great sense of humour, the ability to learn from their mistakes and to always show the utmost respect for their colleagues and clients.

That little bit extra…

Fox Williams is a unique firm with fee earners sporting many hidden talents.  In keeping with our values, we understand and respect that our lawyers have interests outside of the office and we actively encourage our trainees to get involved in external extra-curricular activities while they are training with us.

Top tip!  Please use your application form to tell us about any activities you are currently involved in, and why they are important to you.  Whether it’s playing an instrument or sport, looking after young siblings or your grandparents, running your own business or being a member of a university society – we want to hear about it.

Diversity and Inclusion

At Fox Williams, we take diversity and inclusion very seriously.  To give peace of mind to all applicants, we operate a blind CV screening process, ensuring that whatever your background, it will never create a barrier to entry.  All we ask is that applicants bring their whole selves to work, contribute positively to the firm and maintain the utmost respect for all those around them.
