Sebastian is a senior associate (employed barrister) in the firm’s dispute resolution practice. He is a member of the Business Crime and Regulation team, and specialises in criminal and regulatory matters.

Sebastian joined the firm in January 2019 from the FCA, having worked in the Enforcement Division of the regulator since 2014. Whilst at the FCA, Sebastian was a prosecutor and worked on many high-profile investigations and prosecutions. He is well placed to provide specialist and strategic advice to those facing criminal and regulatory investigations.

He was the lawyer on multiple FCA cases taken to trial at Southwark Crown Court, involving criminal breaches of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000, the Financial Services Act 2012, and money laundering offences. Shortly before joining the firm he dealt with one of the FCA’s most high profile insider dealing prosecutions, involving a compliance officer at a large Swiss bank.

He liaised regularly with other international regulators and enforcement authorities (US Securities and Exchange Commission, US Department of Justice, French Autorité des marchés financiers, Swiss authorities). He also advised on cases involving potential criminal and regulatory breaches of the Money Laundering Regulations. He appeared before the Regulatory Decisions Committee, and dealt with contested matters involving individuals applying to become FCA authorised persons.

He provided advice on the scope and direction of matters from their outset (pre-search/arrest) and is therefore well placed to advise both individual and corporate clients at all stages of an investigation. Based on his significant investigative experience, Sebastian will assist in the firm’s investigation practice, advising corporates investigating misconduct.

Prior to joining the FCA Sebastian practised at the Bar from 9-12 Bell Yard (now Foundry Chambers), and defended and prosecuted a broad spectrum of criminal cases.

Sebastian graduated from the University of Warwick in 2006 with an honours degree in Law. He completed his Bar Vocational Course at BPP Law School in London. He was called to the Bar, as a member of Lincoln’s Inn, in 2007.
