Recruitment process

The online application process for our training contracts will open in December 2018 and close on 31 March 2019.

During this application window, you may apply for a training contract to commence in either:

  • September 2020
  • March 2021
  • September 2021

Final selection for our training contracts for 2020/21 will be through a one week vacation scheme in July 2019. Please ensure you are able to fulfil this requirement before applying.

We understand it takes a lot of commitment to apply for a training contract, which is why we also invest a lot of time and effort into our application process. All of our lawyers are hand-picked to ensure that Fox Williams is the right place for them, and for us. It’s what makes us able to provide a great client service and create an engaging working culture. Fox Williams is a uniquely special place to work. If we are right for you, you will not want to be anywhere else.

What is the process?

Each application is carefully read and considered against our criteria by our lawyers and a member of the graduate recruitment team.

After reviewing all applications, we will select our top 40 candidates to go through to the next stage, which will consist of two separate elements:

  • The first will be a 30 minute technical interview with a member of the graduate recruitment team. These will take place between 6 – 17 May 2019. You will be able to choose whether you have the interview in person at our office or via Skype.
  • The second will be an invitation to a drinks and canapes evening with our partners, to be held on 13 and 18 June 2019 in our office between 17.00 – 19.00. You will be able to choose which evening you join.

Following the partner event, we will then invite our top 12 candidates to join one of our vacation scheme weeks. These will take place w/c 8 July and w/c 15 July 2019.

We believe our vacation scheme week is the most important part of our selection process, as much for you to determine whether you believe Fox Williams is an environment in which you will flourish, as it is for us. With this in mind, please ensure you are able to join us for one of these weeks as we will be unable to offer a training contract to anyone who has not attended a vacation scheme.

Our Vacation Scheme

During the vacation scheme you will experience one or two of our departments so that you see what different aspects of the Law involve. You will also have the opportunity to meet some of our partners, associates and trainees to genuinely understand what it’s like to work at Fox Williams and get to know potential colleagues. Throughout the week there are a variety of assessments, including written technical exercises, presentations, group activities and a formal interview. We believe our vacation scheme is a two-way assessment, for you to get to know us and understand what sets us apart from other Law firms, as well as us getting to know you.

When will I know if I have been offered a Training Contract?

Verbal 1-2-1 feedback is provided to all of those who attend our vacation scheme, whether you have been successful or not. Formal offers of training contracts will be extended by 1 August 2019.

What next?

If you are selected to join us as a trainee, we will introduce you to other members of the firm at social events so that there are a few familiar faces before you start.
