Recruitment process

Our trainee application process is now open. It will close on 31 January 2020.

During this application window, you may apply for a training contract to commence in 2020 or 2021.

We understand it takes a lot of commitment to apply for a training contract, which is why we also invest a lot of time and effort into our application process. All of our lawyers are hand-picked to ensure that Fox Williams is the right place for them, and for us. It’s what makes us able to provide a great client service and create an engaging working culture. Fox Williams is a uniquely special place to work. If we are right for you, you will not want to be anywhere else.

What is the process?

Each application is carefully read and considered against our criteria by our partners.

After reviewing all applications, we will select our top 50 candidates to go through to the next stage, which will consist of two separate elements:

  • online psychometric testing
  • an invitation to an informal meeting with some of our partners. These meetings will be held in February for those applying for September 2020 contracts and in June for those applying for March/September 2021 contracts.

Following the partner event, we will then invite our top candidates to join one of our vacation scheme weeks. These will take place w/c 30 March for the September 2020 contracts and w/c 6/13/20 July for the 2021 contracts.

We believe our vacation scheme week is the most important part of our selection process, as much for you to determine whether you believe Fox Williams is an environment in which you will flourish, as it is for us. With this in mind, please ensure you are able to join us for one of these weeks as we will be unable to offer a training contract to anyone who has not attended a vacation scheme.

Our Vacation Scheme

During the vacation scheme you will experience two of our departments so that you see what different aspects of the Law involve. You will also have the opportunity to meet some of our partners, associates and trainees to genuinely understand what it’s like to work at Fox Williams and get to know potential colleagues. Throughout the week there are a variety of assessments, including written technical exercises, presentations, group activities and a formal interview. We believe our vacation scheme is a two-way assessment, for you to get to know us and understand what sets us apart from other Law firms, as well as us getting to know you.

When will I know if I have been offered a Training Contract?

Verbal 1-2-1 feedback is provided to all of those who attend our vacation scheme, whether you have been successful or not.

What next?

If you are selected to join us as a trainee, we will introduce you to other members of the firm at social events so that there are a few familiar faces before you start.
