City law firm Fox Williams LLP has strengthened its Dispute Resolution offering with the appointment of civil fraud, asset tracing and insolvency expert David Butler. David is an experienced litigation and dispute resolution partner and becomes Fox Williams’ sixth partner in the Dispute Resolution team.
David has a broad practice which includes civil fraud and asset tracing, shareholder, joint venture and partnership disputes, insolvency, trusts and contentious regulatory matters.
David trained at SJ Berwin in London and qualified into its dispute resolution department in 2005. In 2010 he relocated to the Cayman Islands and was involved in some of Cayman’s most notable cases, including defending Saudi businessman Maan Al Sanea in a $9.2 billion fraud claim, and conducting the defence of a $1 billion claim brought by the Renova group arising from an alleged breach of fiduciary duty by the director of a Cayman Islands company.
He also regularly advised office holders and stakeholders in contentious insolvency proceedings, including advising the receivers of UK litigation funder Axiom Legal Financing Fund in connection with their investigation of the collapse of the £100m fund.
Chambers Global 2016 noted David’s depth of experience and “sensible approach”. Legal 500 mentions David as “responsive and a strategic thinker” (2016).
Commenting on his appointment, David said:
“Fox Williams has an established reputation within the City for providing exceptional service to clients on a broad range of complex litigation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution matters. I am delighted to be joining this distinguished disputes team.”
Gavin Foggo, Head of the litigation and dispute resolution practice, commented:
“I am very pleased that David has joined us. Our clients expect a high level of partner expertise and involvement and David’s experience and skills strengthen our offering, particularly in relation to civil fraud, insolvency and international work.”
