Fox Williams is hosting its seventh Pre Moot on 26 and 27 February 2022. The Pre Moot has become a staple of the mooting calendar and is one of the best regarded pre-moots on the global stage. It serves as preparation for the Vis Moot, the biggest commercial arbitration law competition in the world.

The Pre Moot will welcome at least 24 teams from across the world with Lord Wilson of Culworth, former Justice of the Supreme Court, judging the final rounds. For the fourth consecutive year, Fox Williams is hosting the competition in conjunction with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

The Pre Moot will be hosted by Peter Ashford, partner and co-head of Fox Williams’ international arbitration practice. He says: “This is a superb opportunity for teams to practise their debating skills, further their study of international commercial law and arbitration and receive practical training in resolving international business disputes.

“The Pre Moot enables teams participating at the Vis Moot to try different team combinations and refine arguments to The Problem set by the Vis Moot. We were once again overwhelmed by the number of teams who applied to take part in our 2022 competition, which shows the popularity of our Pre Moot.”

The 2022 Pre Moot will be preceded by a panel debate for practitioners and team coaches, hosted by Fox Williams, on the afternoon of Wednesday 23 February 2022. The speakers will debate the procedural issues raised by this year’s Vis Moot Problem and will include Lord Wilson of Culworth.

Peter Ashford says: “In addition to the Pre Moot itself, the panel debate always generates significant interest and discussion and provides participants in the Pre Moot with useful guidance in how to tackle the Vis Moot Problem. We’re delighted that Lord Wilson of Culworth will be joining the panel and the competing teams will benefit significantly from his considerable insight and expertise.”

Teams that applied to take part in the Pre-Moot will hear shortly whether they have been awarded a place. Those wishing to volunteer to sit as an arbitrator should register here

In last year’s Pre-Moot, Erasmus University of Rotterdam were crowned the winners, with the NOVA School of Law in Lisbon, the runners-up.
