Fox Williams is accelerating the growth of its civil fraud and asset recovery practice with the hire of Sarah Murray, who joins as a partner on 1 September 2025, the same day the UK’s new “Failure to Prevent Fraud” offence comes into force.
Sarah brings over two decades of experience in complex commercial litigation, with a strong track record in fraud-related claims. She joins from Stevens & Bolton, where she led both the commercial litigation and international practice groups.
Her arrival reflects Fox Williams’ continued investment in its contentious offering, following a rise in mandates involving fraud, asset tracing and regulatory scrutiny.
Sarah advises on the full spectrum of commercial disputes. She is experienced in asset recovery, injunctive relief, and multi-party claims, and frequently works with boards, in-house legal teams and forensic specialists to coordinate strategic, fast-moving responses. She also advises on regulatory aspects of fraud, including FCA investigations.
Well regarded for her pragmatic and strategic approach, Sarah is a trusted adviser to clients across the retail, insurance, manufacturing and healthcare sectors. Her international practice spans multiple jurisdictions, shaped by her leadership of cross-border collaboration initiatives and longstanding ties with US and global firms.
Speaking about her move, Sarah said: “It’s a big change after more than two decades at the same firm but Fox Williams stood out as somewhere I could bring fresh energy, grow a practice and work with brilliant people who genuinely care about what they do. I’m proud of what I’ve built so far and excited to bring that experience into a new chapter.”
Her appointment comes as corporates prepare for the introduction of the new “Failure to Prevent Fraud” offence under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act, which also takes effect on 1 September. The offence will expose large organisations to criminal liability if they fail to prevent fraud by employees or associated third parties, raising the stakes for boards and legal and compliance teams alike.
Senior partner, Gavin Foggo welcomes Sarah to Fox Williams, commenting: “Sarah is an exceptional lawyer with a proven ability to guide clients through complex fraud and commercial disputes. Her expertise and international connections will be a real asset to our team and clients alike.”
Sarah joins a highly-regarded dispute resolution team, led by Andrew Hill, who, together with Matthew Reach, has been instrumental in developing the firm’s market-leading securities litigation practice. The team also includes partners Evie Meleagros, David Butler, Gavin Foggo, Kofi Mills-Bampoe, Ben Giaretta and Tom Custance, covering general commercial litigation, civil fraud and international arbitration. Between them, they act on some of the most complex and sensitive disputes in the market. Earlier this year, Meleagros successfully represented the 10th defendant in Magomedov v Magomedov & Others – the largest civil fraud case ever brought before the English courts.
Sarah Murray’s arrival strengthens Fox Williams’ capability in its disputes practice, and reinforces the firm’s strategic focus on contentious work for a domestic and international client base.
