I am a senior associate in Fox Williams’ Commerce & Technology and FinTech teams. I advise clients from start-ups to major institutions on non-contentious technology and regulatory matters, with a particular focus on financial technology and payments.”
Stewart advises a broad range of clients, from fast-growth disruptive tech and FinTech businesses to established multinational businesses and financial institutions, often in relation to matters involving institutional counterparts.
Stewart specialises in preparing and negotiating complex technology (including SaaS) agreements with major institutional clients, global banks and strategic partners, helping businesses structure, document and close commercial arrangements that support long-term growth. He combines commercial pragmatism with deep legal expertise to help clients manage risk, align commercial incentives and secure tailored contractual terms across supply, platform, data and integration arrangements. Stewart regularly works on matters with a cross-border element.
Alongside his commercial contracting work, Stewart regularly advises on financial services regulatory issues, with a particular focus on payments, e-money, open banking and related perimeter questions. He supports clients on regulatory strategy, product changes, and compliance, FCA regulatory obligations, outsourcing requirements, third-party partnerships, and emerging product compliance challenges in highly regulated markets.
Stewart joined Fox Williams in November 2023 from Deloitte Legal’s London office, having previously worked for Taylor Vinters/Mishcon de Reya (Mishcon de Reya merged with Taylor Vinters) in London and Mattersmith Limited, a hybrid IT law firm and LawTech business based in the North East.
