With four former FCA lawyers, the firm’s Financial Services team has more than 30 years’ in-house regulatory experience.
Fox Williams’ Business Crime and Financial Regulatory team has expanded with the appointment this month of Sebastian Sayer, who has joined as a senior associate from the Enforcement Division of the FCA.
Trained as a barrister, Sebastian spent four years at the FCA, where he worked on numerous high profile investigations and prosecutions. These included cases taken to trial at Southwark Crown Court involving criminal breaches of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000, the Financial Services Act 2012 and money laundering offences. He also liaised regularly with international regulators and enforcement authorities.
At Fox Williams, Sebastian joins financial services regulatory head Peter Wright and partners James Carlton and Sona Ganatra on the contentious side of the practice, together with Chris Finney, who provides non-contentious regulatory advice. Peter, Chris and Sona have all worked within the FCA in recent years. The team includes several other associates, including Mardi McGregor who joined in 2018 from Clifford Chance, and Chris Tanoh, who joined the firm in 2017.
Peter Wright said: “Our team works with organisations and individuals subject to the highest level of scrutiny. In complex and uncertain situations, our regulatory guidance enables clients to demonstrate resilience, particularly in today’s unstable business environment. Sebastian’s recent experience of working within the FCA, together with his professional training, strengthens our ability to offer our clients the intelligent, practical and effective advice for which we are known.”
