In a strategic move marking a milestone in its growth trajectory, Carbon Clean has successfully acquired its new global headquarters at The Forge, Bankside – the UK’s inaugural net zero commercial office development by Landsec. The Fox Williams team advising Carbon Clean was led by real estate partner Nish Kapoor and supported by legal director Rebecca Facey, senior associate Stephen Browne, and associate Dominic Moroz.
Carbon Clean is a leader in revolutionising carbon capture solutions, delivering cost-effective, modular, space-saving technology that enables hard-to-abate industries to decarbonise at scale.
The new office space will serve as Carbon Clean’s global headquarters and is a fitting location for the company, given its mission to make net zero a reality through capturing 1 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide. The Forge is designed to minimise environmental impact and facilitate collaboration between teams. The building features PV solar panels, rainwater harvesting, a green roof garden to encourage bee pollination, and has a commitment to 100% of waste diverted from landfill. It has been designed in line with the UK Green Building Council’s definition of a net zero building.
Commenting on the deal, Nish Kapoor said: “We are delighted to have represented Carbon Clean in relation to this acquisition, which reflects the company’s remarkable growth, expanding client base and commitment to providing an exceptional work environment for its employees.
“As Carbon Clean was the first occupier in the building, Fox Williams was required to demonstrate our experience in identifying and resolving both legal and practical issues in dealing with newly completed developments with pragmatic and commercial solutions for corporate occupiers in a sector where we have been extremely active in recent years.”
Chris Dye, VP & General Counsel at Carbon Clean, added: “The Fox Williams real estate team were simply great in helping us navigate this real estate and construction transaction. They were very easy to work with and always responsive, providing clear commercial advice that allowed us to occupy the new space on time.”
Iain Tobin, Chief Corporate Officer & CFO at Carbon Clean, said: “As innovators in industrial carbon capture who are fully committed to a net zero future, it was important to find a new global headquarters that aligns with our mission. We’ve increased our headcount by 55% in the past year, so we wanted premises that could accommodate our future growth and provide a high-quality environment for our employees, customers, and partners. London is a global centre for clean technology and we’re looking forward to continuing to lead in carbon capture from our new home in The Forge.
“Thank you to everyone at Fox Williams who worked so hard to get this across the line.”
Carbon Clean is planning to increase its headcount by more than 90% by March 2025, and the London office move marks the company’s most recent expansion following the opening of its US headquarters in Houston in March 2023.
