I am the Management Partner at Fox Williams and a partner in the corporate team. I advise a wide range of clients on all aspects of corporate law. As head of the firm's publishing & digital media sector group, I have a particular focus on advising content-rich, knowledge and data-driven businesses.”

Mary advises both listed and unlisted companies and institutions on domestic and cross-border M&A transactions, joint ventures, corporate restructurings, and venture capital and private equity fundraisings. She regularly supports clients in acquisition strategies for growth and innovation as well as on transactions that enable the realisation of investment value and successful exits.  She has a wealth of expertise in corporate governance for both publicly listed and private companies, helping them navigate and implement best practices and procedures suited to their particular needs.

Mary has in-depth knowledge of the publishing and digital media sector, regularly speaking at industry events and trade fairs, most recently hosting workshops and giving lectures on the legal risks and opportunities arising for the evolving technologies and AI which are reshaping the publishing and digital media industries.

Mary is a Trustee of the Royal National Institute for Blind People (RNIB), where she chairs the People, Culture & Safeguarding Committee, and is a passionate advocate for disability inclusion.

At the Women & Diversity Awards 2025, Mary was “Highly Commended” for Law Firm Leader of the Year – National / Regional Law Firm.

Experience

  • Advised on the majority shareholders (including VC investors SEEK and Moebus) of MyTutor, the UK’s leading online tutoring platform, on its sale to US-based education technology company IXL Learning (the owners of Rosetta Stone, Wyzant and Teachers Pay Teachers). 

  • Advised Trustbridge Global Media, owned by international private equity firm Trustbridge Partners, on its landmark acquisition of the children’s book publisher Walker Books Limited. The complex transaction involved the acquisition of the majority shareholding in Walker Books from two discretionary trusts which held the shares for the benefit of employees and authors, and the acquisition of the remaining shares from over 300 employees and authors who held shares either directly or through the Walker Books’ share incentive plan.

  • Advised the shareholders of Harriman House on its sale to Pan Macmillan.

  • Advised Critical Publishing on the sale of its business to Taylor & Francis.

  • Advised Welbeck Publishing on its acquisition of Carlton Books and Jonathan Goodman Publishing and subsequently advised the shareholders of Welbeck Publishing on its sale to Hachette UK. 

  • Advised the shareholders of education communications agency EdComs Limited on its acquisition by Everfi. The acquisition has given EdComs and EVERFI a global platform from which to deploy education addressing social issues alongside a roster of well-known brands and companies.

  • Advised the shareholders of Adam Phones on the sale of the company’s entire issued share capital to Radius Payment Solutions, a leading independent service provider to the fleet and logistics market.
